Music for LIFE is directed by Kerry Frazier, Jr., the visionary of the LIFE House. Kerry is an incredibly gifted writer, producer, artist and educator. Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, he was introduced to music at the early age of two by his grandfather, Mr. John Green, a retired band director and professional musician.
Kerry graduated from Nashville School of the Arts and was awarded a full football scholarship to attend Alabama State University where he received a Bachelor of Art in Recording Engineering. He earned a Master of Art in Music Education at Tennessee State University and is currently pursuing a doctorate in education.
An international music educator for middle school children through college, Kerry provides private piano and saxophone lessons. Spiritually grounded, Kerry enjoys his duties as the musical director of a local area church and adjunct music professor at Tennessee State University. Kerry's musical talent includes alto, tenor, and soprano saxophone, drums, keyboards, piano, songwriting, composing, and proficiency in Pro Tools. His favorite genre of music is jazz, but he loves and performs all types of music including R&B, Country, and Gospel. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated and Phi Mu Alpha Symphonic Fraternity. He attributes his musical gifts as blessings from God and begins each day with reading the Word for strength and guidance.
Larrice 'Trey' Byrd is the co-director of Music for LIFE. He was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee surrounded by a musical family. His father is a phenomenal bass player and Grammy Award-winning singer, and his godfather is hit songwriter Paul Kennerley, both are his biggest influences and mentors.
His parents involved him in the church band where he played drums. Trey also plays keyboards, guitar, bass and can hold his own on saxophone. But, it wasn’t until around middle school where he began his formal education in music. He attended Nashville School of the Arts and Middle Tennessee State University where he honed his musical talents. Between his courses, the clinics and guest speakers and performers who regularly graced the halls and campus ( Rock Williams, Wooten Brothers, Michael and Randy Brecker, Jeff Tain Watts, Kenny Garrett, David Garibaldi), Trey was exposed to all facets of music. Playing in Latin, Jazz, Rock, Gospel and Country bands only furthered his scope of abilities.
Trey would eventually kickstart his career as a musician touring overseas with Sharrie Williams and the Wiseguys, an experience he calls “life changing." In addition to countless hours of sessions, Trey has toured and played with numerous artists including, but not limited to, Gloriana, Trent Tomlinson, Kirk Whalum, Steve Holy, Jabo Starks, to name a few. He has also played on countless prime time shows and stages including Ellen, Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel, Red Rocks, Gillette Stadium and back-to-back sold out shows at the Staples Center. Trey is also endorsed by Yamaha, Zildjian and Vic Firth.
